Bring Your Own Sewing Machine: An Introduction
Got a sewing machine sitting at home that you’re not quite sure how to use? Bring it along and let’s get you started.
Saturday 16th January, 9:30am–12:00pm
Stitch & Splodge, Stoke, Plymouth
£20 per person
Ages 18+
This beginner-friendly workshop is an introduction to using your own domestic sewing machine. We’ll take things slowly and cover the basics, including setting up your machine, getting to know its different functions and learning how to actually start sewing.
I’m a fully qualified secondary Art & Design teacher, as well as an artist and maker, so I’m experienced in helping complete beginners feel comfortable trying something new. You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions and work with your own machine, so you can leave feeling more confident about using it at home.
No previous sewing experience is needed.
What we’ll cover
- Setting up your sewing machine
- Getting familiar with the basic functions and controls
- Threading your machine and winding a bobbin
- Understanding needles, stitches and tension
- Sewing some basic stitches and getting comfortable with your machine
- Troubleshooting some common beginner problems
- The option to work on a small project
- Cleaning your machine
- Time to ask questions
Please bring: your own domestic sewing machine, along with its foot pedal, power cable and any accessories that came with it. If you have your machine’s manual, bring that too.
This is an introduction rather than a formal sewing class, so the focus is on helping you understand your machine and feel confident getting started.
Please note: workshops and clubs are non-refundable. If you have any issues or questions, please contact hello@gingerandmake.co.uk.
